Subject matter photos
These are my annotated photos for my story. I have used the majority as they are in good focus and have fairly good lighting. The main reason for crossing them out is because some are blurry...
I took these images because there are quite a lot of characters in my book and many will feature on the cover. I also took them of the characters because a lot of the scenery will be fantasy, for example the castle and land of sweets; therefore I can make them up myself. I asked my sister to act out different poses, actions and facial expressions as to make it easier when illustrating my book. This can help in many ways, for example, there is a scene where a mermaid is stuck in sea weed. I asked Matilda to shout and looked frightened so I can get real expression into the characters faces.
I think my shoot was successful because I have a lot of pictures that I like and can use for my book. The best ones are the close up ones because they are more focused and show more expression.
I used a lamp to add lighting and this helped with the close ups too. However, the lamp got in the way in some pictures so they now can't be used!
The pirate pictures didn't go as well as the others because I was holding the lamp and taking the photo at the same time so nearly all of those came out blurry. I also think the mermaid ones could be better because I took them outside. I thought they would look better with natural sunlight but they look a bit out of place because the others have a lamp with focused light, and these don't. It was harder to take these because the mermaid costume was hard to position!
If I could take these again, I would get someone to hold the lamp and make sure it didn't get in the way because that was the main reason why the photos were blurry. I would also take all the photos inside for consistency. I think I would also take more photos so I had lots of different facial expressions and actions for each character.
